Brookgreen Village

Coleraine August 2004 to February 2007

The Brookgreen development was a joint venture between Fold Housing Association and Causeway Trust where the development was designed by ASI Architects Ltd and constructed with Fold Housing Association as the Principle Client and that the development was then managed by Causeway Trust.  The initial aspect of the development was to design a new 50 unit EMI Facility (Elderly Mentally Infirm), with Day Care facilities which would replace the existing facility on the site and in facilitating this significant ground works were undertaken to offer a level site that could house the new development while still maintaining the existing facility.

Phase 1 was tendered, with the second Phase being negotiated subject to funding being available.  McCloskey & O’Kane were appointed following a select list shortlist based on the most advantageous price.  Performance related partnering allowed appointment for Phase 2.  Works were carried out between August 2004 and February 2007..

THE DESIGN

The end-use demanded an high level of research and development in respect to circulation routes within the building, use of colour and texture of finishes, devices within the building fabric that would act as ‘memory joggers’ and a high usage of carpet, timber doors and soft furnishes to reflect the family home setting and thus reducing stress.

Proud winners the Pinder National Healthcare Award in 2009. The Brook supports a full spectrum of elderly living needs—from independent bungalows to supported apartments and a dedicated EMI unit—alongside a Day Care Centre, Chapel, Admin lock, and landscaped grounds. A benchmark project in holistic, age-inclusive design.
