SHIPQUAY BOUTIQUE HOTEL — DERRY CITY
Appointed by Foyleview Builders, we were tasked with converting the prominent former Bank of Ireland building — located on the main pedestrian approach to the Richmond Centre — into a boutique hotel. Building on our experience delivering the spa extension at the White Horse Hotel, Campsie, and extensive works at the Da Vinci Complex, Culmore Road, this project presented unique challenges that we proudly overcame.
The result was the creation of 21 spacious double and king-sized rooms, a highly successful restaurant accessed via Shipquay Street, and a dedicated lounge/bar at lower ground level, accessed from the pedestrian footway to the Richmond Centre.
This was achieved on an extremely tight footprint, made possible by the introduction of a lightwell running through three floors. This feature allowed natural light to filter into the surrounding rooms and culminated in a glass roof, flooding the main reception access with daylight.
The hotel is successfully run to this day by manager and owner Roary Cregan and remains one of the most pleasant and sought-after restaurant experiences in Derry.
